The Flood

Well the rain took a break today, I did not think that it would give us a break, but it has paused for 24 hours. Still the river looks like a 'long white train' as the flood waters will not stop.

The creek east of the house at this time last year was dry. Now, it is about three feet from being over the road. I am dry except for a little water in the basement.

I hope all of you are safe and dry. Click here and listen to Roger Miller sing "River In the Rain" and say a little for the folks affected by the flood.

Jamy Bechler

Picture from Martin Methodist College

In the last few years I have been very lucky to develop contacts with some tremendous coaches throughout the country. One of them is Head Women's Basketball Coach Jamy Bechler at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, TN.

Coach Bechler has several basketball publications and is serving on the tournament committee for the NAIA Women’s Division I Basketball Championship. He understands basketball and life as well as anyone I know.

Click here to read one of his posts about some of the best coaches in the country that no one knows. He also has countless other need to read articles on his blog. Click here to read more about his Red- Hawks.

My Hometown

Picture from www.iowacourthouses.org

By now I think you realize I love different genre's of music and when I heard "Death To My Hometown" by The Boss I had to post it. It combines Celtic and Rock and it continues the wonderful music that Springsteen does. Click here and enjoy it.

Light

I love the son, it brings us the light that we are robbed of all winter. This speech on Northern Exposure by Chris explains exactly why.  Click here and listen to one of the many great moments of Northern Exposure.

"Feels Like Home"

I love Randy Newman, and I caught him singing "Feels Like Home" recently.
On this Memorial Day it has me thinking about all the men and women that serve in the military and how they must feel when they return home. Click here to listen to that song.

Old Friend

I ran into my old friend Tom Waits at the Chili Parlor last night when I went to have a bowl of green chili and a Lone Star. He sat down with me at my favorite booth. The people behind him were making fun of his unique voice and I got up to say something to them, when Tom grabbed my arm and said,

“It’s true, I’ll never sing opera again. It is, however, an appropriate organ for conveying; it’s the right horn for my car. People get out of the way when I blow it. It frightens children and gets me a seat at the bar. What more do you want from a voice?”

Tom is his own man.

Summer Time

Summer time is here. The last day of school was yesterday. The kids handled five extra innings (days) better then the teachers. Me myself, I have parked my car at the front of the driveway, and I am trying to keep people out until I run away to the Sea of Cortez later on in June. The phones are shut off except for a certain time of the day.(need to know only) Yes I am avoiding people, and no I do not want to talk to people. The only voices I want to hear are people like this.
